Jolene Schatz was nominated for the Technician of the Year award by the physician for which she works, ophthalmologist Dr. John Kirk of Kirk Eye Center in Loveland. Three nominations were received this year. Each individual was highly qualified and deserving of the award.
Jolene is a member of RMOP and has been a program coordinator for Northern Colorado in the past. She will receive a $250.00 award and plaque as well as a certificate for Kirk Eye Center. Following is Dr. Kirk's nomination information

"I would like to nominate Jolene Schatz for the Technician of the Year Award. Jolene has worked in ophthalmology for twenty years, and she has been indispensable to our practice since the day she joined us in 2003. She displays strong leadership skills as the technical staff supervisor. She is a highly skilled technician and works diligently alongside the other clinical staff. Jolene continuously seeks to further her education and has demonstrated a strong commitment to the continuing education of our technical staff. She is a strong supporter of RMOP and its educational programs throughout northern Colorado. Jolene is also our surgery coordinator, and her attention to detail, her clear communication skills, and her warm personality inspire confidence. She displays a rare passion and dedication to her work, and is a favorite of both patients and staff alike. Jolene is the first to help out, the last to leave at night, and smiles through it all."
The vote for Technician of the Year took place at the board of directors annual meeting on April 23. The board decided that beginning in 2009 one technician would be chosen from each region, Northern, Southern/Western and Denver. Nominees would receive a $100 award. It is believed that there are so many deserving techs, that choosing only one tech does not reflect the abilities of all the technicians in Colorado.
